In this project, which is supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), my colleagues and I aim to uncover new transmission mechanisms of monetary and fiscal policy by exploiting information contained in two novel datasets of detailed high-frequency transactions. The goal is to better understand the transmission of monetary and fiscal policies to the real economy.

Monitoring Consumption Switzerland is a joint initiative of the University of St. Gallen, the University of Lausanne–E4S, and Novalytica, supported by SIX, Worldline as well as the Swiss Payments Association. We are using aggregated and anonymized payment data to shed light on consumer spending in Switzerland.
